This 3D model is a historically informed reconstruction of the Bronze Altar, also known as the Altar of Burnt Offering, from the biblical Tabernacle.
According to Exodus 27, the altar was square, measuring five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high. Using an Egyptian royal cubit of 52.36 cm, the reconstructed dimensions are approximately:
- Length: 261.80 cm.
- Width: 261.80 cm.
- Height: 157.08 cm.
The altar is represented as a hollow acacia-wood structure covered with bronze. It features four projecting horns at the corners, a reinforced upper rim, carrying rings, and an internal bronze grate positioned approximately halfway up the altar.
The central grate supports the firewood and burning coals, while the sacrificial meat could be arranged directly on the burning wood. The hollow lower section allows air to circulate beneath the fire and provides space for ashes to collect. Because the biblical text does not specify every structural detail, the model combines the written description with practical reasoning and historically informed artistic interpretation.
